Welcome Dr. Jiali Shang Visiting Precision Agriculture Center, UMN

Dr. Shang is a research scientist at the Ottawa Research and Development Centre in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and an adjunct professor at the Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering, York  University. She received her Bsc. in geography from Beijing Normal University, M.A. in Geography from University of Windsor, and Ph.D. in Environmental Remote Sensing from University of Waterloo.  She has been actively involved in methodology development and application using Earth Observation (EO) technology to vegetation biophysical parameter retrieval, crop growth modeling, and precision farming using both optial and radar data. She has served as international scientific authority for funding proposal review for Canada and other international organizations.  She has led multiple national and international research programs to develop EO applications to agriculture.

The Precision Agriculture Center hosted the 2019 Production Agriculture Symposium on "Dialing In: Precision Agriculture in Action," featuring keynote addresses, student presentations, panel discussions, and poster sessions. With 240 attendees, the event highlighted cutting-edge research and collaboration in agriculture. Preceding the symposium, a roundtable discussion with keynote speakers Dr. Raj Khosla and Dr. Kelly Thorp provided additional insights. Congratulations to Dr. Ali Moghimi on His Ph.D. Defense

Dr. Ali Moghimi successfully defended his Ph.D. on February 5th, 2019, at the University of Minnesota. His research, combining hyperspectral imaging and artificial intelligence, developed innovative frameworks for wheat phenotyping, focusing on yield potential, salt stress tolerance, and Fusarium head blight resistance. Dr. Moghimi's contributions, including UAV-based field phenotyping and automated feature selection frameworks, mark a significant advancement in sustainable agriculture. He will begin a postdoctoral role at UC Davis in March. Congratulations, Dr. Moghimi!
