Welcome Dr. Jiali Shang Visiting Precision Agriculture Center, UMN
September 18, 2019

Dr. Shang is a research scientist at the Ottawa Research and Development Centre in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and an adjunct professor at the Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering, York University. She received her Bsc. in geography from Beijing Normal University, M.A. in Geography from University of Windsor, and Ph.D. in Environmental Remote Sensing from University of Waterloo. She has been actively involved in methodology development and application using Earth Observation (EO) technology to vegetation biophysical parameter retrieval, crop growth modeling, and precision farming using both optial and radar data. She has served as international scientific authority for funding proposal review for Canada and other international organizations. She has led multiple national and international research programs to develop EO applications to agriculture.

Congratulations to Dr. Ali Moghimi on His Ph.D. Defense
February 5, 2019
Dr. Ali Moghimi successfully defended his Ph.D. on February 5th, 2019, at the University of Minnesota. His research, combining hyperspectral imaging and artificial intelligence, developed innovative frameworks for wheat phenotyping, focusing on yield potential, salt stress tolerance, and Fusarium head blight resistance. Dr. Moghimi's contributions, including UAV-based field phenotyping and automated feature selection frameworks, mark a significant advancement in sustainable agriculture. He will begin a postdoctoral role at UC Davis in March. Congratulations, Dr. Moghimi!
February 5, 2019
Ali Moghimi will present his PhD dissertation titled "Integrating Hyperspectral Imaging and Artificial Intelligence to Develop Automated Frameworks for High-Throughput Phenotyping in Wheat" on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at 10:00 AM in Room 310 Alderman Hall. His innovative research focuses on leveraging hyperspectral imaging and AI to improve crop phenotyping, addressing traits like yield potential, salt stress tolerance, and Fusarium head blight resistance. This work offers transformative tools for breeders and significant contributions to global food security. Best of luck to Ali in his defense!
