Seiya Wakahara, a PhD candidate in the Land and Atmospheric Science program at the University of Minnesota, has been awarded the prestigious Data Science Initiative-MnDRIVE PhD Graduate Assistantship. This competitive award supports interdisciplinary research at the intersection of data science and MnDRIVE focus areas. Seiya’s research, titled “Precision Nitrogen and Irrigation Management of Potatoes based on Multi-source Data Fusion using Machine Learning and Crop Growth Modeling,” aligns with the Global Food Ventures MnDRIVE initiative. His work integrates machine learning and crop growth modeling to optimize nitrogen and irrigation management in potato production, aiming to enhance sustainability and efficiency. The assistantship provides a 12-month research position with tuition and health insurance, empowering Seiya to advance precision agriculture practices and address critical agricultural challenges. Dr. Yuxin Miao Appointed as Director of the Precision Agriculture Center

Dr. Yuxin Miao has been named Director of the Precision Agriculture Center at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Soil, Water, and Climate. As an Associate Professor of Precision Agriculture and Nutrient Management, Dr. Miao’s extensive research portfolio includes over 170 publications and groundbreaking advancements in precision nutrient management. His innovations, such as the 5SNM precision nitrogen management system, integrate remote sensing, GIS, and machine learning to enhance crop monitoring and environmental sustainability. Dr. Miao’s leadership aims to further the Center’s mission, fostering global collaborations and supporting sustainable agriculture practices. Junjun Lu Joins the Precision Agriculture Center as a Postdoctoral Associate

Recognized globally for his expertise in precision agriculture, GIS, and nutrient management, Dr. Lu's accolades include the Best Young Scientist Paper Award and Outstanding Graduate Student Award in precision agriculture. His research integrates cutting-edge tools like machine learning and remote sensing to optimize crop nutrient efficiency and sustainability.
